Previous to the school becoming The Frances Bardsley School for Girls in 1972, the two sites had housed "sister" schools; a Secondary modern school and a Grammar school. The first school was started, in 1906, by the founder Frances Bardsley in the centre of Romford; her vision was to provide free education for local girls.

The Royal Liberty School is a secondary school for boys aged 11 to 16, located in Gidea Park in the London Borough of Havering, England. [1]The school is situated on Upper Brentwood Road about 400 metres north of Gidea Park railway station, and approximately halfway between Gidea Park and Ardleigh Green to the north-east of Romford.
The school was judged by Ofsted as outstanding when it was a voluntary-aided girls comprehensive school in 2009. It changed its status to an academy in 2011; and was inspected again by Ofsted in 2013. Again it was judged to be outstanding. Ofsted described it then as a smaller-than-average secondary school with an average racial mix.

In 2016, Ofsted marked the school as "Requires Improvement". Previously a foundation school administered by Havering London Borough Council, in April 2017 Marshalls Park School converted to academy status and was renamed Marshalls Park Academy. The school is now sponsored by the South West Essex Community Education Trust.
