The James K.P. Wolfe House is a historic home in Frederick, Maryland. It is a two-story, frame, single hall plan, Victorian period farmhouse with Gothic Revival-style detailing. It is a late-19th century example of the Maryland Piedmont farmhouse. The dwelling was built in 1889 by the Wolfe family, who owned the property until 1936. [2]
The main house has combined Greek Revival and Italianate stylistic influences. The once large Markell dairy farm, with its lane to the Ballenger Creek ford of the Monocacy River , served as the primary approach route to the battlefield by Confederate troops during the July 9, 1864 Battle of Monocacy during the American Civil War .
The house is two stories high, 58 feet (18 m) by 22 feet (6.7 m), with seven bays on the lower level, and six above. It was built and expanded in three phases. The original house is the timber H-bent-framed house. A log section was added in 1855, and the north side was encased in a frame overlay at a later date.
