Rough Mix is an album by Pete Townshend, guitarist with the Who, and Ronnie Lane, former bassist with Small Faces and Faces. The album was released in September 1977 as Polydor 2442 in the UK and MCA 2295 in the US. [1] It peaked at number 44 on the UK Albums Chart, [2] and at number 45 on the Billboard 200.
His ensuing album with Pete Townshend, Rough Mix, produced by Glyn Johns, which was released in 1977, was lauded as contender for best album of the year by many critics, but the label did not promote it and sales were lacklustre. During the recording of Rough Mix, Lane's multiple sclerosis was diagnosed.
Cover versions include the Pete Townshend / Ronnie Lane version on their "Rough Mix" album and by Carla Olson & Rob Waller on 2013's Have Harmony, Will Travel. Alison Krauss recorded it for the tribute album “Gentle Giants: The Songs of Don Williams” (2017).
The compilation included songs from Pete Townshend's solo career as well as two songs from the album Rough Mix with Ronnie Lane. It also included the single edit of English Boy" and the first appearance of "Let My Love Open the Door (E. Cola Mix)" and the Psychoderelict outtake, "Uneasy Street".
