The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) is a voluntary, non-profit association for the support and governance of interscholastic activities at high schools in Minnesota, United States. [1] The association supports interscholastic athletics and fine arts programs for member schools.

The school is a part of Minnesota Independent School District 196 (Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District), and is affiliated with the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). The school was a member of the Lake Conference from their first year until the 2010–11 school year when they joined the South Suburban Conference .

The Granite Ridge Conference is a high school athletic conference that is sanctioned by the Minnesota State High School League. The conference was designed to create a better alignment for the involved schools. Currently, there are eight members.
University High School was a founding member of the Lake Conference in 1932. They won a conference football title in 1930. [3] When the school merged with Marshall, the combined school used the Cardinals nickname adopted from Marshall. The Northwest Suburban Conference is an athletic conference for all northwest suburban high schools of Minneapolis, Minnesota. On August 30, 2024, Maple Grove announced that they will be switching from the Northwest Suburban Conference to join the Lake Conference in the fall of 2025.
