Fashion Valley (also called Fashion Valley Mall) is an upscale, open-air shopping mall in Mission Valley in San Diego, California. The shopping center hosts 1,720,533 sq ft (159,842.7 m 2 ) of leasable floor area, making it the largest mall in San Diego and one of the largest in California.
Snapdragon Stadium is located in the northwest corner of SDSU Mission Valley, a 166-acre (67 ha) noncontiguous campus expansion. The stadium is accessible from the main campus via the San Diego Trolley at SDSU Transit Center. It was built adjacent to the former San Diego Stadium, which hosted Aztecs football from 1967 to 2019. Walker Scott, the San Diego–based department store chain was an anchor, as was Mayfair Markets, TG&Y discount stores joining later. At launch, the center was 1,200-foot (370 m) long on a single-axis mall, had 200,000 square feet (19,000 m 2) of gross leasable area, 40 stores, and 30 acres (120,000 m 2) of parking for 1,250 cars.
In early 1958, May Centers proposed rezoning 90 acres (360,000 m 2) in the then sparsely-populated Mission Valley area of San Diego to build a shopping mall. The May Company Building at Mission Valley was designed in 1958. Construction began in 1959 with completion in late 1960; the store opened with the mall on February 20, 1961. It was designed by William S. (Bill) Lewis, Jr. for LA-based AC Martin (later of Deems-Lewis), Frank L. Hope & Associates backstopped the project locally. [ 1 ]
North County Tavern + Bowl opened on the second level of the mall in December 2010, replacing Oggi's Pizza & Brewing Co. and three adjacent stores. The 15,000 square foot facility encompassed a 300-seat restaurant, a 30-foot bar, and eight bowling lanes. [7] The tavern closed in 2017 and was replaced by a Comic Book and Memorabilia store. [8]
