Paul Lavon Davis (April 21, 1948 – April 22, 2008) [1] was an American singer and songwriter, best known for his radio hits and solo career that started worldwide in 1970. His career encompassed soul , country , and pop.
Recorded in early 1982 during the final months of ABBA, the album was released on 10 September of that same year. [1] Produced by Phil Collins with Hugh Padgham, the album featured a harder-edged and more rock-oriented sound than the music she had previously recorded with ABBA, and it included Collins' distinctive gated reverb drum sound.
Although the song was in the public domain, it was copyrighted as having been written by Gary Davis at the time of the recording by Peter, Paul and Mary. The resulting royalties allowed Davis to buy a house and live comfortably for the rest of his life, and Davis referred to the house as "the house that Peter, Paul and Mary built."
ABBA recently received five Grammy nominations for their reunion album, Voyage, which was released in November 2021 to rave reviews. It was the group’s first record of new material in 40 years.
