I would like to get a set of Hogue wood grips for my 5 inch bbl GP100 but just don't want to break loose with the coins to get one. Reply Like.
The original insert grips (small) for GP100 are the smallest (AFAIK). But after using them for a while I returned to Hogue, which - while larger - were more convenient to hold and afforded me better accuracy (YMMV). As for considering SP101 in place of GP100 - a matter of personal choice. I would not make a switch.

The older OEM rubber Lett Grips for the GP100, the one's with the wood panels...the easiest way to understand their size difference is that the smaller Lett Rubber Grip accepts the SP101-sized wood/grip panels. For Self-Defense, I practice the ancient art known as "KLIK-PAO".
I have tried every grip I can find for the GP100. My opinion is you can have beautiful wood grips, but the ugly rubber grips have a definite advantage. They cushion recoil better, and provide a positive grip. The standard Hogue Monogrip that comes on the GP100 is ok, but the Hogue Tamer that comes on the Super Redhawk, and Alaskans is much better.
Choose from 10+ color options and multiple textures. Made in the USA. After the match, after cleaning and lubricating the GP100, I switched the grips to the VZ 320 G10s. The 320s have the same profile and dimensions, but have a smoother finish, but with a fabric-like texture to provide a modicum of retention in use.

The SP101 is roughly 1/4" shorter than the GP100 compact. The SP101 grip has a smaller circumference than either of the GP grips. Reply Like. Sixgun100. 753 posts · Joined ...
I experimented extensively with grips for my GP100 last year; shooting full-house 1,250 fps+ 158 gr .357 magnum cartridges primarily, but also some more lightly loaded 1,000 fps 158 gr stuff. I used the gun and grips in multiple IDPA matches, training and EDC throughout a 4 month period in 2022.
Gp100’s and super redhawks take the same grips. They have a grip frame stub. Redhawks have a full grip frame, and redhawk grips will not fit on a gp100 or a super redhawk. To further confuse you, they make 2 sizes of the grips that take the wood insert. One is full size, and takes a large insert. The other is a compact size and takes a ...
Here's another vote for the 'compact' Ruger grip. It is my first choice for 3-inch and 4-inch GP-100's. Never having had a 6-inch GP-100, I do not know if I would choose 'regular' or 'compact'. Here's a picture of the Hogue 'monster', Ruger 'regular' and Ruger 'compact'.
