1. You can use the nslookup command to check DNS resolution. Open a cmd terminal window (Start -> cmd > run). Type: nslookup www.google.com. The first two lines are the domain server you are using. In my case: C:> nslookup www.google.com. Server: cns.sanjose.ca.sanfran.comcast.net.

ipv6 dns servers and settings. I've used xfinity for 6 years and always had ipv6 connectivity. About 5 months ago I got a new router and used the same settings for ipv6 that my last router used. But I'm not getting ipv6 - all my wifi devices are running at 433mbps. In the past when ipv6 was working wifi devices all ran at 867mbps.
Could someone comment on the privacy implications of leaving Comcast's Search Domain entry, i.e. hsd1.il.comcast.net. Wouldn't this cause your searches to be logged by Comcast regardless of your DNS server entries? If you want to use another DNS like Google/Cloudflare/OpenDNS shouldn't you use their Search Domain?
Best solution is to bridge the X1fi from Xfinity and use your own router. Advantages are many including choosing your own DNS servers such as google, 4.4.4.4 and 4.4.8.8 as well as providing QoS scheduling so you get to determine what activities get what share of the available bandwidth.
I found the default DNS comcast servers to be really wonky on both of them. Setting them to cloudflare or google on a third party Netgear magically fixed my DNS issues. "dig query" to cloudflare/google and even oddballs like afraid.org is faster too, which is odd because in theory, your direct upstream DNS should be faster.

The above Comcast DNS servers work just fine to resolve anything else, but they do not seem to be able to resolve "dv.teleperformanceusa.com". it should resolve to 208.80.225.197 They should be doing a recursive lookup against nin-exdns-01.teleperformanceusa.com (216.152.208.183) or nin-exdns-02.teleperformanceusa.com (216.152.208.137)
Changing DNS servers on xfinity gateway. We the users need to have an option to control our network. I don’t have to buy another modem just to change my dns server. We need the option manage our own network that we are paying for. Changing the dns on a device base is ridiculous, I don’t have time to change the dns settings on about 20 devices.
