Colusa is a city and county seat of Colusa County, California, located in the Sacramento Valley region of the Central Valley. The population was 5,971 at the 2010 census, up from 5,402 at the 2000 census. Colusi originates from the local Coru Native American tribe, who in the 1840s lived on the opposite side of the Sacramento River.
He came to California during the California gold rush, arriving in San Francisco via the Panama Canal at the age of 17 on October 10, 1849, although he never tried his hand at gold mining. His uncle, C.D. Semple, purchased 8,875 acres (35.92 km 2) of land from John Bidwell in then-Colusi County (now Colusa County).

Hugh James Glenn (September 18, 1824 – February 17, 1883) was a prominent 19th-century physician, stockman, wheat farmer and politician in California. In 1879, he ran in the California gubernatorial election as the candidate of both the Democratic and the New Constitution parties but lost to Republican George C. Perkins.
Colusa County is one of the original counties of California, created in 1850 at the time of statehood.Parts of the county's territory were given to Tehama County in 1856 and to Glenn County in 1891.
