"The One Where Everybody Finds Out" is the fourteenth episode of Friends ' fifth season. It first aired on the NBC network in the United States on February 11, 1999. In the episode, Phoebe Buffay discovers that Monica Geller and Chandler Bing are secretly dating, and decides to "mess" with them by pretending to flirt with Chandler.
The relationship started with Monica being the more mature (when it comes to relationships) person, but Chandler changes to become the steady person, a great foil for Monica's neuroses. They eventually move in together and later marry.
The two ex-lovers protest mightily, and Monica is almost convinced when Phoebe comes in, immediately misinterprets the situation and asks if she can sing at Ross and Rachel's wedding too. When Chandler and Joey return, Joey is also delighted at the "reunion", and Monica accuses Rachel of being unable to stand anyone else being in the spotlight.
Monica and Chandler's season 4 finale hookup was originally written as a one-time thing, but after overwhelming fan response, production decided to make their relationship permanent.
Elsewhere in the interview, Kauffman revealed that Monica and Chandler’s much-loved on-screen relationship had originally been written as a one night stand.
