Admission to all Pennsylvania state parks is free, although there are fees charged for use of cabins, marinas, etc. Pennsylvania's state parks offer "over 7,000 family campsites, 286 cabins, nearly 30,000 picnic tables, 56 major recreational lakes, 10 marinas, 61 beaches for swimming, 17 swimming pools" and over 1,000 miles (1,600 km) of trails.
Each cabin can sleep up to six guests in two bedrooms. The cabins are equipped with a modern bathroom, a kitchen with a stove, microwave and refrigerator. The yard areas have picnic tables, grills and fire rings. [6] There are three camping cottages located in Lakeside Campground, which sleep five guests in bunk beds. One cottage is ADA accessible.
It has modern camping facilities, including bathhouses with green technology and the first sites with sewer hookup in all the state parks in Pennsylvania. The Pines Campground is open Memorial Day through Labor Day. It is on the northwestern shore of Promised Land Lake. The campground does have flush toilets, but no showers.
Two River Cabins have one room and sleep four people and the other 11 River Cabins have four rooms, a fireplace and sleep six or eight people. The Indian Cabins are along Tom's Run behind the park office. These smaller, one-room cabins sleep four people. [6] [14] Part of Ridge Campground is open year-round. Winter access is not guaranteed.
The cabins comprise two separate wings to house campers and staff. The sleeping areas nearly double the capacity of the cabents and improve supervision as multiple staff are housed with the campers. To maintain the openair feel of a cabent, a large portion of each exterior wall has been left open to allow for a flowing cross breeze from Lake Erie.
Pymatuning State Park was chosen by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and its Bureau of Parks as one of "25 Must-See Pennsylvania State Parks". [3] The park was the only State Park in Pennsylvania with camping facilities to be in the path of totality for the solar eclipse of April 8, 2024. [4]
