Although originally an oral tradition, the genre was incorporated into longer poems, epics and narratives by a number of Indian poets [8] across major Modern Indo-Aryan languages including—Hindi, Urdu, Bengali, Gujarati, Rajasthani languages, Bihari languages, Punjabi etc., and can be found in the folk poetry of the tribal people too.

Prasad started writing poetry with the pen name of ‘Kaladhar’. The first collection of poem that Prasad penned, named, Chitradhar, was written in Braj dialect of Hindi but his later works were written in Khadi dialect or Sanskritized Hindi. [5] Later on Prasad promulgated ‘Chhayavad’, a literary trend in Hindi literature.
Naresh Mehta (15 February 1922 – 22 November 2000) was a Hindi writer. There are over 50 published works in his name, ranging from poetry to plays. He received several literary awards, most notably the Sahitya Akademi Award in Hindi in 1988 for his poetry collection Aranya and the Jnanpith Award in 1992.
