The dam’s drainage culvert was rebuilt in 2011. The inflow to the pond originates about 500 feet to the south at Brister’s Spring, named for Brister Freeman (mistakenly identified by Henry David Thoreau as ‘Scipio’ or ‘Sippio’ Brister), [3] a freed slave who lived with his family on the small hill from which the spring emerges. A half-an-hour drive from Boston, Massachusetts, in the town of Concord, sits one of the most revered literary landscapes in the world: the 2,680-acre Walden Woods and Walden Pond State Reservation.
Other significant places lying among The Robbins House are Brister Hill, named after Brister Freeman, [11] and even Walden Woods, a famous landmark. The Robbins House is woven among some of Concord's most important history.
