The museum was established in 1838, eight years after the fall of the capital to French colonial forces. It was officially inaugurated sixty years later, in 1897. The Bardo National Museum of Prehistory and Ethnography (Arabic: المتحف الوطني باردو, El-mathaf El-ouatani Bardo, French: Musée National de Préhistoire et d'Ethnographie du Bardo) is a national museum located in Algiers, Algeria.
