The Selby Public Library is the largest in the Sarasota County Library system serving a population area of 367,867. [8] Friends of the Selby Public Library is a 501(c)(3) that has donated over $1 million to the library over the past 10 years.
In 1974, Sarasota County assumed responsibility for maintaining all public county libraries. The building was used as a library until 1976, when library operations moved to 1001 Boulevard of the Arts, and ultimately renamed Selby Library. The Osprey Public Library is located at Historic Spanish Point and is part of the Sarasota County Public Library System.
