Between 1978 and 1988, the Blazers played their home games at the off-campus Birmingham–Jefferson Convention Complex Arena, located just north of downtown Birmingham. [4] On December 3, 1988, the men's team defeated Vanderbilt 76–69 in the first game played at the then named UAB Arena. [ 5 ]
The UAB Softball program played its first season in 2000. The program played its home games at George Ward Park from inception through the 2009 season. In 2010, the Blazer Softball team began playing home games at an on campus stadium. The stadium was built after parents of softball players filed a Title IX complaint against the university.
Protective Stadium is a football stadium owned and operated by the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center Authority in downtown Birmingham, Alabama, U.S. [2] [3] Since its opening in 2021, the stadium has been named for Protective Life, a financial service holding company based in Birmingham, which pays $1 million per year as part of a 15-year naming rights deal. [4]

The 2024 UAB Blazers football team represented the University of Alabama at Birmingham in the American Athletic Conference (AAC) during the 2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season. The Blazers were led by Trent Dilfer in his second year as the head coach.

The Class AA minor-league baseball team moved from the then 73-year-old Ray Winder Field in Little Rock to a new $28 million home in North Little Rock at the start of the 2007 season. The arena was the home of the 2003, 2006, and 2009 Southeastern Conference women's basketball tournament and the 2000 Sun Belt Conference men's basketball tournament.
