A pops orchestra is an orchestra that plays popular music (generally traditional pop) and show tunes as well as well-known classical works. Pops orchestras are generally organized in large cities and are distinct from the more " highbrow " symphony or philharmonic orchestras which also may exist in the same city.

Hayman in 1966. Richard Warren Joseph Hayman (March 27, 1920 – February 5, 2014) was an American musician who was the chief music arranger of the Boston Pops Orchestra for over 50 years, and served as a pops conductor for orchestras including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony and the Grand Rapids Symphony in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Russell attended Ludlow Elementary School in Shaker Heights, outside of Cleveland.Active in theater and music in high school at Shaker Heights High School, he played piano and trumpet in band, orchestra, jazz ensemble, and theatrical productions, and formed a "garage band" that played cover tunes from the great funk horn bands of the late 1970s.
