St. Mel's Church, 2008. St. Mel is a Catholic church and elementary school located on Ventura Boulevard in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California. St. Mel's parish was established in 1955. As of February 2020, Father Steve Davoren was the pastor, [1] and Mary Beth Lutz was the principal of the school. [2]
The Church of Spiritual Technology (CST) was incorporated by Sherman Lenske in Woodland Hills, California, on May 27, 1982. [4] The Bylaws of CST were signed on June 7, 1982, by its General and Special Directors, who were at that time Lyman Spurlock, Rebecca Pook, Maria Starkey, Stephen A. Lenske, Sherman D. Lenske and Lawrence A. Heller.
The church began meeting in a few temporary venues under the name "Shepherd of the Hills," though the church remained baptist, having recently joined the Southern Baptist Convention. In 1990, the church acquired a larger property in Porter Ranch , and in 1991, construction was finished on its now historic, ranch-style building. [ 4 ]
The land acquired for the construction of the church was formerly an orchard on the estate of actor Gary Cooper. [2] Ground was broken for the construction of the church on February 9, 1947, and the cost of the church was estimated at $150,000 with an additional $25,000 for furnishings. [3] The church was dedicated in November 1947.
