They were a backing vocal group for various musicians, as well as songwriters. They performed with various acts, including Pacific Gas & Electric, Humble Pie, Ringo Starr, and Pink Floyd.
The group always consisted of 4 or 5 singers. The ever-changing lineup included Minnie Riperton, Merry Clayton, Clydie King of the Blackberries, Edna Wright of Honey Cone, and latter-day Supreme Susaye Greene. Charles also produced and played piano on solo singles for various Raelettes.
Blackberri was born in Buffalo, New York and raised in Baltimore. [4]Blackberri was drafted into the U.S. Navy in 1965. [1] He was discharged in 1966 for being gay.Blackberri stated "I was under investigation because one of my shipmates turned me in ... they had evidence, they arrested me, went through my personal belongings and found incriminating letters and other things."
