The Boat (French: Le Bateau) is a paper-cut from 1953 by Henri Matisse. The picture is composed from pieces of paper cut out of sheets painted with gouache , and was created during the last years of Matisse's life.
The print depicts three boats moving through a storm-tossed sea, with a large, cresting wave forming a spiral in the centre over the boats and Mount Fuji visible in the background. The print is Hokusai's best-known work and the first in his series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji , in which the use of Prussian blue revolutionized Japanese prints.
The two solar boats, known as the Northern-Day Boat and the Southern-Day Boat, lack the sharply incurved stern post that is popular in later iterations of solar boats and pictures like the Pyramid Texts and Palermo stone. [15] The fifth boat is located south of the pyramid, but is perpendicular to the pyramid instead of parallel. [16]
Some important qualities that Manet picked up included two-dimensional composition, lighter coloring, and cropping of the field of view. In Boating, Manet purposely cut off the boat where the two figures are sitting, a tool used by Japanese artists. Some of the colors including the harsh blue in the water is also Japanese inspired.

More than 40 pre-historic log-boats have been found in the Czech Republic. The latest discovery was in 1999 of a 10 meters (33 ft) long log-boat in Mohelnice. It was cut out of a single oak log and has a width of 1.05 meters (3.4 ft). The log-boat has been dated to around 1000 BC and is kept at the Mohelnice Museum (Museum of National History).
