William Edwin Chilton (March 17, 1858 – November 7, 1939) was a United States senator from West Virginia.Born in Colesmouth, Virginia (now St. Albans, West Virginia), he attended public and private schools and graduated from Shelton College in St. Albans.
He attended West Virginia University, Morgantown, West Virginia in 1952 on a Benedum Scholarship, studying political science and history, graduating with high honors in 1956. While at the university he served as president of the student body, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa , Phi Alpha Theta and Beta Theta Pi .
That same year, he was elected to the Walmart board of directors. In August 2002, he was also given the title of CEO for Sam's Club USA. The following April, he became executive vice president and vice chairman of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
