The Robert W. Saunders Sr. Public Library is a member of the Tampa-Hillsborough County Public Library System (THPL) and the Hillsborough County Public Library Cooperative (HCPLC). Located on 1505 Nebraska Avenue in Tampa, Florida, the 26,244 square foot library is one of only two African-American research libraries in Florida. [1]
The Robert W. Saunders Sr. Public Library, located on 1505 N. Nebraska Ave. Tampa, was originally opened in 1933 and was named the Ybor City Branch Library. It was donated by the local Italian American Club. The new building at 1505 North Nebraska Avenue was dedicated in January 1969.
The West Tampa Branch Library is served by the Ada T. Payne Friends of the Urban Libraries group, a volunteer group that also serves the Robert W. Saunders Sr. Public Library and the C. Blythe Andrews Jr. Public Library. A Friends of the Library bookstore is located on site.

Robert Saunders (January 22, 1929 – October 23, 2016) was an American oil businessman and politician in the state of Florida. [1] Saunders was born in Quitman, Georgia and came to Florida in 1938. He served in the Florida Senate from 1969 to 1971, as well as 1973 to 1976. He was a member of the Democratic Party. [2]
