In ancient Greek religion and mythology, the Moirai (/ ˈ m ɔɪ r aɪ,-r iː /)—often known in English as the Fates—were the personifications of destiny. They were three sisters: Clotho (the spinner), Lachesis (the allotter), and Atropos (the inevitable, a metaphor for death).
She is the youngest goddess of the Three Fates or Moirai. In ancient Greek mythology, she spins the thread of human life, her sisters draw out and cut the thread. She also made major decisions, such as when a person was born, thus in effect controlling people's lives.

In Ancient Greek literature the word is also used meaning "fate" or "destiny" (ἀνάγκη δαιμόνων, "fate by the daemons or by the gods"), and by extension "compulsion or torture by a superior." [10] She appears often in poetry, as Simonides does: "Even the gods don't fight against ananke". [11]
