The roll-bar version or "Top Cabrio" (TC) continued with the E30 TC2 even after Baur developed the BMW E30 Convertible design for BMW, and which BMW built. The Opel Kadett C Aero was produced from 1976 to 1978, with a Baur top. Then there was the Baur TC3 of 1987, which was stopped by the production of the BMW Z1.
The BMW E30 is the second generation of BMW 3 Series, which was produced from 1982 to 1994 and replaced the E21 3 Series. The model range included 2-door saloon (sometimes referred to as a coupé) and convertible body styles, [ 4 ] [ 5 ] as well as being the first 3 Series to be produced in 4-door saloon and wagon/estate body styles.
In 2012, Rimac Automobili showed off its 1984 BMW E30 that had been restored and repowered with an electric drivetrain by breaking EV acceleration records. [7] With electrified drivetrains now becoming more readily available through recycling crashed EVs, a market has developed for electromod conversions of classic and replica cars. [8]
One of the last designs advertised by Paul Banham conversions was a replica of the Jaguar XK120 convertible, and like the Banham Mini Roadster this was a not sold as a kit but instead as a coach built vehicle. It was produced using (at the time) fairly modern 1990s BMW parts, but looked like an original XK120 on the outside.
The final M20 engines were fitted to the E30 3 Series wagon (estate) and convertible model built in April 1993. [3] The M20 was the basis for the BMW M21 diesel engine. [4] It is also loosely related to the BMW M70 V12 petrol engine.

The E30 was the first 3 Series to be available in wagon and 4-door sedan body styles. It was also the first 3 Series to offer a diesel engine, and all-wheel drive was introduced to the 3 Series range with the 325iX model. The BMW Z1 roadster was based on the E30 platform. The first BMW M3 was built on the E30 platform.
All-wheel drive was not available for the E36, unlike the previous (E30) and successive (E46) generations. The E36 was named in Car and Driver magazine's 10Best list for every year it was on sale. [4] Following the introduction of its successor, the E46 3 Series in 1998, the E36 began to be phased out and was eventually replaced in 1999.
