Greenbank Farm was founded in 1904 by Calvin Philips and his family as a model dairy farm with to goal of bringing commerce to Whidbey Island. The now iconic barn was built the same year. [ 1 ] In 1906, 125 acres of land was cleared along what is currently Highway 20 to make room for the expanding cattle herd.
Whidbey Island hosts many festivals and celebrations throughout the year. Whidbey Island Area Fair ("Island County Fair" until 2012 [35]), on the third weekend of July, includes rides, food, and animal shows. Wag'n'Walk, which takes place towards the end of August, is Western Washington's premier celebration of dogs and things dog-related.
Behind the barns at the Greenbank Farm is a small marsh with a viewing platform recently built by the Whidbey Audubon Society. Many species of birds can be observed here including Red Wing Black-Birds and Warblers. Several solar projects have been implemented to reduce impact on the environment as well as offer free EV charging for all visitors.
