Completed in 1934 as part of a Depression-era jobs program, it is one of the small number of such post offices designed by a private architectural firm, Payne & Keefe. Built in 1905 and enlarged in 1938, it is a good local example of Classical Revival architecture, with an unusual level of detail for a period post office. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 17, 1986. [1]
