North of Joplin, Route 43 is a relatively straight highway. It intersects U.S. Route 160 in Barton County west of Lamar. A few miles south of there it intersects Route 126. Just north of Joplin, it intersects Route 96. In Joplin, the highway is known as Main Street and passes through the old historic downtown area.
The district encompasses 185 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section of Joplin. It developed between about 1880 and 1965 and includes representative examples of Queen Anne , Richardsonian Romanesque , Classical Revival , Mission Revival , Colonial Revival , and Tudor Revival style architecture.

In Benton County, the route passes Garfield Elementary School near the junction with Arkansas Highway 127 in Garfield before exiting Rogers. [3]
The Old US 71 – Wilton Segment is a former alignment of US 71 near Wilton in Little River County, Arkansas. The roadway of about 2 miles (3.2 km) is a 1934 construction and was the main travel route in the county upon construction until US 59 /US 71 bypassed this alignment in 1965.

Arkansas Highway 72 Spur (AR 72B) is a former spur route in Bentonville. Its southern terminus was at an intersection with US 71 with a northern terminus at an intersection with Highway 72 in Bentonville. Running a total distance of 1-mile (1.6 km), it was an older alignment of US 71 and at one time was part of US 71B.
