ICE 4 is a Deutsche Bahn project to procure up to 300 fourth generation Intercity-Express trains to replace its existing Intercity fleets used on long-distance passenger services in Germany. [ 12 ] In addition to the ICE 4, Deutsche Bahn has awarded Bombardier Transportation a contract to supply double-decker coaches for Intercity services.
The trains have a low noise-level inside and in addition to level boarding have wheelchair accessible areas that can also be used for bicycles and an accessible toilet. Each train is 105 m (344 ft) long, forming train sets 210 m (690 ft) long, with a powered single-deck car on each ends and two non-powered double-deck cars in the middle.
The line starts in Cologne at the Abzweig Köln-Steinstrasse in the Cologne borough of Porz.Whilst the connection loop to Cologne-Bonn Airport, the Cologne Airport loop, is technically not a part of the high-speed line, it was built as a part of the general refurbishments in the Cologne area due to the line, and hence is generally regarded as part of the project.
The line is divided: while trains from the north go via the Stadtbahn to BER Airport, trains from the south go into the north-south tunnel to Berlin Hbf. Trains going to Finsterwalde do not stop at Klasdorf-Glashütte, Drahnsdorf and Walddrehna. The service between Berlin Zoologischer Garten and Berlin Hbf is 24/7. Stadler KISS: ODEG RE 8
