The Maharaja Alak Narayana Society of Arts and Science (MANSAS) Trust, which was established by P.V.G. Raju on 12 November 1958, was instrumental for the development of the college. It was established in 1844 as Maharaja's School by Maharaja of Jaipur, Sawai Ram Singh II, along with Pandit Shivdeen, who also became its first principal.Originally affiliated with University of Calcutta,and subsequently with University of Allahabad in 1890, the college went on to become one of six constituent colleges of University of Rajasthan, established in 1947.
It was started as a middle school in 1857 and upgraded to a high school in 1868. It was upgraded to a college in 1879 under the University of Madras, under the leadership of Principal C. Chandrasekhara Sastri, Professor of English and Sanskrit, and scaled thereafter with the aid of the 10th Maharaja, Sir Pusapati Ananda Gajapathi Raju. [2]
The college took its present shape when the University of Mysore was established in 1916. The university started functioning from college campus itself and VC's office remained here till 1947 when Crawford Hall was built. [1] M.A. courses were started at the college in 1917. [5] It went on to be a pioneer in the education.
The college was established as an "Urdu Madarsa" in 1865, then converted into an A.V.M school in 1881. It was made a high school in 1884, affiliated to Calcutta University. In 1887, the school's affiliation shifted to Allahabad University. It was made an intermediate college in 1935, with A.B. Lal as its first principal.

The Maharaja's College is a government college located in the city of Kochi in Kerala, India. Established in 1875, it is one of the oldest colleges in India. Located in the heart of the city, the college campus is spread over 100,000 square metres (25 acres) on the banks of Vembanad Lake.
