Natchitoches Parish was created by the act of April 10, 1805, that divided the Territory of Orleans into 12 parishes, including Orleans, Iberville, Rapides and Natchitoches. The parish boundaries were much larger than now defined, but were gradually reduced as new parishes were organized following population increases in the state.
The First Fall Tour of Homes, presented by the Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches, opened the doors of historic houses in 1954, spawning copycats across northwest Louisiana.
Originally built in the early nineteenth century, it is a Poteaux-en-terre French Creole cottage with bousillage construction walls. Several alterations were made in the 1830s when a beaded tongue and groove ceiling was added, along with board and batten fenestration, and in 1850, when it was added the actual pitched roof and siding.
