The Serpent Queen is an American historical drama television series about the life of Catherine de' Medici, the 16th century Queen of France, as portrayed by actress Samantha Morton. The series was created by Justin Haythe and is based on the 2004 nonfiction book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda.
It won the Jury Prize and Best Actress Award ( Virna Lisi) for the role Catherine de Medici at the Cannes Film Festival, as well as five César Awards. A restored version was shown as part of the Cannes Classics section of the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. [2] The period film was also nominated for the Oscar for Best Costume Design in 1995.
