Jeg Coughlin Sr. started JEGS Automotive Inc. in 1960 in a garage near downtown Columbus, Ohio because there was no source in the Midwest to obtain high-performance auto parts to modify hot rods. As JEGS became known for their full selection, the "garage" grew into a successful company.

The first organized charity was the Columbus Female Benevolent Society, formed in 1835 to give clothing and monetary donations to families in need. It was co-founded by Hannah Neil, who went on to establish a day school for poor children in 1855, and established it as the Industrial School Association in 1858.
In fall 1812, as the city was being organized, John Collett built a two-story brick tavern at this site. Sale of lots began on June 18, 1812. The structure was the first two-story building in Columbus. In 1813, the tavern opened, managed by Volney Payne.
