Boat trailer, 5000 lb boat+1000 lb trailer. Tandem axle, dexter/star 4 on 9.44" pattern 13" wheels. I put a set of 4 used radial car tires on it years ago and they were overloaded.
The tires are 26" tall. These are the same size tires that came on the 84 up Vettes when the first directional Gatorback Goodyears came out until they started coming with the 17's in later years. They aren't trailer tires but they have decent load capacity.
The last ST tires I bought were 225/75/15 in a load range D. I put them on a tandem axle trailer after having used car tires on it for years. there is a reason they make "trailer" tires they work better. The trailer pulls easier with ST tires on it and they last longer. I bought 4 radial ST's and it was less than $70 per tire mounted and balanced.
They are all 400-500 lbs less than the trailer tires. Granted my trailer only weighs about 11k for local camping (~9500 of that on the tires) and 14k for desert trips (~12k on axles). The Maxxis is rated at 3420lbs/tire (13680lbs), Carlise at 3520lbs/tire (14080lbs) and Nitto Dura Grappler LT Truck tires are only 3042/tire (12168lbs) 14ply G ...
I have a 16' equipment trailer that I've had for years, and its time to replace the tires. The tires still hold air fine, but are now well over ten years old and I simply don't trust them. The rims are the old Dexter style open hub 14.5's, and take an 8-14.5 tire.
Just be aware these things come in load ranges from D to G and the weight rating from a D to a G can be as much as a 1500 lb difference, so get the weight rating you need for your trailer. Screw up and put D's on a 14k gross trailer and you just made it an 8k trailer. Most of the ones at a mobile home dealer will be 12 ply F's or 14 ply G's.
