Arundel Cathedral, originally dedicated to St. Philip Neri, was commissioned by the 15th Duke of Norfolk in 1868. It was elevated to the status of a cathedral in 1965 and its dedication changed to Our Lady and Saint Philip Howard just after Pope Paul VI canonised the Earl as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales in October 1970.
The Cathedral Church of Our Lady and St Philip Howard is located in Arundel, West Sussex, England. Philip Howard was born the third son of Henry Frederick Howard (afterwards Earl of Arundel and Surrey and head of the House of Norfolk) and his wife, Elizabeth Stuart (daughter of Esme Stuart, the Duke of Lennox), at Arundel House in London. [2] He was brought up in the Church of England.
Philip Howard, 13th Earl of Arundel (1557–1595); first buried in St. Peter ad Vincula and in 1624 his remains were transferred to the Fitzalan Chapel. In 1971, his remains were exhumed and moved to Arundel Cathedral , a year after Pope Paul VI canonized him as one of the Forty Martyrs of England and Wales .

She died as a teenager shortly after the birth of her son, the Catholic model Philip Howard, 13th Earl of Arundel, who lived to unite the FitzAlans and Howards into one dynasty, with Arundel Castle as its seat.
