The re-construction of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Lahore has been done through the Punjab Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education Act 1976 (lately amended by Punjab Ordinance No.XLVII). Currently, nine Boards are functioning in the Punjab province at division level.
The central forum is called Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen (PBCC) and all the BISE's in Punjab take over the Chairmanship for one year in alphabetical order. Mr. Muhammad Adnan Khan is the current chairman of the Board. The Board was established in October, 1977.
The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Multan was established on 30 March 1968. It is located near Gol Bagh, Gulgasht Colony, Multan. [1] [2] It is responsible to take all Matriculation (Secondary) and Intermediate (Higher Secondary) exams (F.A /F.Sc.) of Multan Division schools and colleges as well as all the private candidates.
Prior to establishment of an independent department of Special Education Department, there were 51 institutions in the province with an enrollment of 4265, which has now risen to 248 catering almost 28,850 special children, including 20 institutions of special education devolved from Federal Government as a result of 18th Constitutional Amendment.

Special education teachers also reported higher levels of life satisfaction.
The board conducts examinations at SSC & HSSC level. The SSC ANNUAL EXAMINATION 2020 which commenced on 22 February 2020 was postponed from 14 March 2020 to onwards and on 7 May 2020 it was announced by Federal Minister of Education, Mr. Shafqat Mehmood that this examination has been cancelled [3] for Academic Year 2019–20.
