A recent Gunbroker auction brought this to mind as well as previous discussions on actual production dates for the earliest Glock 17 pistols. While I believe it is possible for a serial number prefix to have more than one date code it may not be possible to have more than the letter prefix of the serial number available.

I have the itch for something new, no real reason. So I'm thinking of a plain Jane 17 Gen 5 but then there's the new DR920 Elite. After adding Ameriglos to the Glock the price difference will be about $350 out the door. I have a plain Gen 3 17 so maybe something different and "Gucci" would be fun. But also the Gen 5 is different enough it would ...
Glock 17 vs 45 (continuing to beat a dead horse) My only 9mm Glock is an early gen 5 19 that I’ve been concealed carrying for 2.5 years now and I absolutely love it. I’m tired of carrying my G19 during the day and coming home and putting a light, threaded barrel, and suppressor on (yeah yeah suppressor for home defense, I’ve heard all the ...

Uncle Mark. 2371 posts · Joined 2007. #9 · Aug 31, 2021. The generation 3 Glock 17 is the only Glock that I have. I've had it for about 15 years and recently "rediscovered" it and have been working up some loads for it. I've got a Lone Wolf threaded barrel on it with AmeriGlo night sights.
The G17 will not fit as well in holsters made for the G19 and G45, but those will fit in a holster for a G17. The G45 is lighter weight and faster to draw, if only a small fraction. The G45 is lesss likely to dig into seats or make the bonk noise, if you sit on a hard surface.
