NG on the 8n engine. But if you are changing out the engine to gas then Basically the 134 engine from a jubilee,600,601, 2000 or 172 engine from an 800,801,4000 or later industrial 192 engine will bolt up.
There are probably more folks out there who prefer 12 volt converted tractors over original 6-volters, but I just ain't one of them, for the reasons I gave above. My 1951 Ford 8n still starts good, even when the temp drops below zero, on 6 volts. I do admit that, even for me, the old, stubburn, Dutchman that I am, there are some exceptions to this.
The Fords 9N/2N/8N are pretty similar. Harry Ferguson did most of the design work on both. When Ferguson licensed his patents to Henry Ford in 1939, Ford's engineers slightly modified the design of two sample tractors Ferguson supplied, to use some existing Ford parts and to be assembly line friendly.
I just picked up an 8N as a project tractor, and am in need of a few parts. Other than the NH/ford dealerships, is there a good source on parts for restoration of these machines? I'm looking for the metal cross tube from the air breather to the carb, also a tach, and the rubber ?bushing (...
I'm restoring a '52 ford 8N. This will be my first tractor restoration. Any tips and/or tricks. I've ordered my replacement parts from www.just8ns.com and am having a machineist make one part for me. Mostly it will be a sheetmetal / paint / rubber replacement, as the motor runs decent enough...
I inherited a nice 8N. I have a pro 5' wide mower attached that I mow the pasture with. I wasn't thinking clearly i guess when I bought a new DR 3 pt. hitch PTO Trimmer to do all my fence lines, including the white vinyl fence. It would be sweet other than now I realize I need to maintain 540 pro but my 8N in first gear is WAY to fast!
OK, all you purists can shake your fingers at me. I have wrecked a perfectly good Ford 8n to make it into a Hot Rod Tractor Name - Frank-N-Ford. OK, this has been my side project for a while now. In memory of my father Frank and his faithful old 1949 Ford 8N tractor. Goal is to have it parade ready by spring 2014. See my progress at Frank-N-Ford
I am working through some starting issues on my 8N. It is a side mount, and i have put new points (set to .025), and a new condenser on it. I am now thinking maybe something is wrong with the ignition switch, the actual on off switch. Mine has what looks like an aftermarket toggle (push in /...
I'm looking for anyone who has used a 4-6' 3 pt. rototiller on a Ford 8n tractor. I'm considering purchasing one but I am wondering if 1st gear will be geared down enough for it. Looking up on a table I found online for the 4 speed 8n, the ground speed is 2.77 MPH (with engine at 1500 rpm) in 1st gear at the recommended 545 RPM for a tiller.
Ford 8N tractor (front distributor) quit on me, and I saw that gas was running out of the bottom of the carb lower body. Closer inspection revealed a recessed screw had fallen out. I removed the lower body, and reinstalled with a temporary plug, but now misses badly.
