The World Islands are composed mainly of sand dredged from Dubai's shallow coastal waters and are one of several artificial island developments in the emirate. The Palm Islands consist of three artificial archipelagos: Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Islands (formerly known as Palm Deira or Deira Islands), and Palm Jebel Ali, [1] on the coast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. However the construction was halted due to the Financial crisis of 2007–2010, [1] except for one island gifted to race car driver Michael Schumacher by the ruler of Dubai, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
