uShaka Marine World is a 16-hectare (40-acre) theme park that opened on 30 April 2004 in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. It has a total capacity of 4.6 million gallons containing 10,000 animal species.
Marine World/Africa USA was an animal theme park located in the Redwood Shores area of Redwood City, California. [1] The park was named Marine World when it first opened in 1968, before merging with a land-animal park called Africa USA in 1972.
The South African Association for Marine Biological Research (SAAMBR) was established in 1951 by a group of conservationists, academics and fishermen who were concerned about the future of marine conservation in South Africa. From 1959 the organisation was housed in the Durban Centenary Aquarium, with laboratories and a library.

In the mid-1970s, it merged with a failing land-animal park called Africa USA and became Marine World Africa USA. [5] The park eventually moved to a new site in Vallejo, California, opening in 1986. The new Marine World opened to visitors in 1986 and remained under control of the non-profit Marine World Foundation. [6]

uShaka Marine World, an aquatic theme park on the Durban beach front opened in 2004.
