The Albany Post Road was a post road – a road used for mail delivery – in the U.S. state of New York. It connected New York City and Albany along the east side of the Hudson River , a service now performed by U.S. Route 9 (US 9).

From 1962 to 1976, this stretch of road was Route 51, which traveled for 9.4 miles (15.1 km) through Old Lyme and East Lyme and was known as the Boston Post Road. In 1976, US 1 returned to the 9.4-mile (15.1 km) stretch of road, thus eliminating the need for Route 51. [citation needed]
