Upon completion in 1908, it was renamed from "Sioux Falls High School" to Washington High School. Three hundred twenty-eight high school students enrolled into the new building on February 14, 1908. The students soon outgrew the building. With a high school population of 536 in 1911, the enrollment exceeded the maximum capacity of 500.
The school opened in 1961, and high school students in the Diocese of Sioux Falls transitioned from the Cathedral School to O'Gorman. [4] From 2008 to 2011, O'Gorman underwent a major addition that added two academic wings, a new chapel, and a new performing arts center.
The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod operates two schools in Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls Lutheran School is on 37th street, while the Lutheran High School of Sioux Falls is on Western Avenue. In 2018, voters approved a plan to move Sioux Falls Lutheran School to a new building near the I-29/I-229 merge on south Boe Lane.

In 1981, Beadle Elementary School began hosting additional programs. [2] By 1987, 500 students were enrolled. The following year, the Sioux Falls City Council approved 56 acres (23 ha) to be converted into a dedicated campus.
