"A Shoulder to Cry On" is a song written by Merle Haggard, and recorded by American country music artist Charley Pride. It was released in January 1973 as the first single from the album Sweet Country. The song was Pride's eleventh number one on the country charts.

Three singles and one promo single (four singles overall) were released from the album. The second single, "A Shoulder to Cry On", became Page's first hit, peaking at #29 on the US music chart. [1] Another hit from the album, "A Zillion Kisses", reached #45 on the Billboard Dance Club Songs. [2]
Sa-Fire and Page co-wrote the song, which was released as a single overseas. Page's third album, released in 1991, was titled From the Heart, and his vocals there showcased a wider range with higher notes than previous efforts. On this album, the ballads were more orchestral. Tommy cited the songs in the album were inspired by Wilson Phillips.
Pride remained with RCA Records into the early 1980s and had more hits with new songs and covers of former hits. Examples included " Honky Tonk Blues ," " Mountain of Love " and " Night Games ." Pride's chart success declined beginning in 1984 and then left RCA in 1986 for the smaller 16th Avenue label. [ 1 ]
