The Potrillo volcanic field is a monogenetic volcanic field located on the Rio Grande Rift in southern New Mexico, United States and northern Chihuahua, Mexico.The volcanic field lies 22 miles (35 km) southwest of Las Cruces, and occupies about 4,661 square kilometers (1,800 sq mi) near the U.S. border with Mexico.
Doña Ana Peak is located in the southeastern part of the range, where it is prominent viewed from Las Cruces, and Summerford Mountain is prominent in the northeast corner of the range. The range is heavily eroded and largely barren of vegetation, exposing some 130 square kilometers (50 sq mi) of bedrock.
The Robledo Mountains are a mountain range in Doña Ana County, New Mexico, just northwest of Las Cruces. They are an uplifted block of Paleozoic rocks on the west side of the Rio Grande Rift. [1] The range was named for Pedro Robledo, who died on May 21, 1598, and was buried nearby. [2]
