The origin of the name Googie dates to 1949, when architect John Lautner designed the Googies Coffee Shop in Hollywood, which had distinct architectural characteristics. [10] The name "Googie" had been a family nickname of Lillian K. Burton, the wife of the restaurant's original owner, Mortimer C. Burton, and aunt of musician Peter Matz. [11] [12]

The term "Googie" comes from a now defunct coffee shop and cafe built in West Hollywood [1] designed by John Lautner. [2] [3]
