The Clark School was founded in 1894 as The College of Engineering at what was then known as the Maryland Agricultural College. In 1949, the school was renamed the Glenn L. Martin College of Engineering and Aeronautical Sciences. The name was changed for a second time in 1955 to the Glenn L. Martin Institute of Technology.
In 1995, Pines joined the faculty of University of Maryland, College Park (UMD), as an assistant professor. He served as dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering for 11 years [3] and held the Glenn L. Martin professorship of aerospace engineering.
