The pub sign The earliest reference to the pub is in 1799 when the Nottingham Directory lists the landlord as John Clayton. It became an inn tied to the Home Brewery Company, and in 1933-34 was rebuilt to the designs of Albert Edgar Eberlin.
The pub is uniquely named after the Knights Templar, [4] a historic religious military order. A battle with medieval soldiers is depicted on the hanging pub sign. [3]Historic England considers the pub building and the attached former brewhouse to be of early 19th century construction, with a western extension fronting Vicar Lane being added later in the century.
