Puketāpapa, also known as Pukewīwī and Mount Roskill, is a volcanic peak and Tūpuna Maunga (ancestral mountain) in Auckland, New Zealand. It is located in the suburb that shares its English name, Mount Roskill. [1] [2]

The name Mount Roskill was first recorded as Mt Rascal in 1841, on a map created by a Wesleyan missionary, referring to the volcanic peak Puketāpapa.The origin of this name is unclear, however an apocryphal story links the name to a livestock thief from the early colonial era, who allegedly used the peak as a grazing area for stolen sheep and cattle.
The Puketāpapa board, named after the Māori name for Mount Roskill, covers the suburbs of Hillsborough, Lynfield, Mount Roskill, Three Kings, Waikowhai, and Wesley. [3] The board is governed by six board members elected at-large. The first board members were elected by the nationwide local elections, which were held on Saturday 9 October 2010.

The school opened in 1878 as Mt Roskill School, and was a focal point for the Three Kings area, hosting Friday night dances, and other events such as concerts and plays. In 1943, the school changed its name to Three Kings School. [9] St Therese School is a state-integrated full primary Catholic school (years 1-8) with a roll of 79 students. [10]

The Waterview Tunnel is a twin road tunnel in central Auckland, New Zealand.At 2,400 metres (7,900 ft) long, it is New Zealand's longest road tunnel. [1] The tunnel, with three lanes of road vehicle traffic in each direction, connects State Highway 20 in the south at Mount Roskill to State Highway 16 in the west at Point Chevalier as part of the Waterview Connection.
