Wexford County Council (Irish: Comhairle Contae Loch Garman) is the local authority of County Wexford, Ireland. As a county council , it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001 . The council is responsible for housing and community, roads and transportation , urban planning and development, amenity and culture , and environment .
An election to all 34 seats on Wexford County Council was held on 7 June 2024 as part of the 2024 Irish local elections. [1] County Wexford is divided into 6 local electoral areas (LEAs) to elect councillors for a five-year term of office on the electoral system of proportional representation by means of the single transferable vote (PR-STV).
Wexford County Council had previously been based in an aging facility in Hill Street. [1] The new building, which was designed by Robin Lee Architecture, cost over €50 million to build. [2] It was officially opened by Brendan Howlin, Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, in 2011. [3] [4] It received a Civic Trust Award in 2012. [5]
