TGV Cinemas Sdn Bhd (also known as TGV Pictures, formerly known as Tanjong Golden Village) is the second largest cinema chain in Malaysia. As of May 2024, TGV Cinemas has 40 multiplexes with 325 screens and more than 53,000 seats. [ 3 ]
It is the third largest cinema chain in the country after Golden Screen Cinemas and TGV Cinemas. MBO Cinemas went into liquidation in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. [2] Later in 2021, Golden Screen Cinemas acquired the majority assets of MBO Cinemas. [3] On 19 December 2021, it was relaunched with new investors under a different management. [4]
In 2016, it opened its first U.S. location under the banner CMX: The VIP Cinema Experience, at Brickell City Centre in Miami. [ 10 ] [ 11 ] In October 2017, Cinemex announced its intent to acquire Cobb Theatres via the CMX Cinemas subsidiary, which made it the eighth-largest U.S. cinema chain with 30 locations.
Since 2009, with the construction of digital cinema, it started showing a variety contents such as baseball game, Japanese K-1, concert and opera shows. In 2010 FIFA World Cup, it was marketed as a location for cheering games with the most number of 2D/3D screens. In 2011, CGV Chungdam Cine City, with luxury life culture concept, was opened.
