The Government of Odisha has selected 237 acres (960,000 m 2) of land for the construction of the permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur at Basantpur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the permanent campus on 2 January 2021. The permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur is inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on 3 February 2024. [8]

Gangadhar Meher University, Amruta Vihar, formerly Sambalpur College and Gangadhar Meher College, is a state university situated in Sambalpur, Odisha, India. It is named after the Odia poet, Gangadhar Meher. N. Nagaraju is the current vice-chancellor, while Jugaleswari Dash is the registrar and Uma Charan Pati the deputy registrar. [2] [3]
So, a new sprawling campus was designed, complete with the main college building, a hospital building, hostels and staff quarters. Construction began on 12 February 1961. On completion of the work in 1966, the college was moved to the new campus and finally received MCI approval in 1967.
After India became independent in 1947, the Planning Commission was entrusted to oversee and direct the development of the nation. India grew rapidly in the 1950s, and in the late 1950s the Commission started facing difficulties in finding suitable managers for the large number of public sector enterprises that were being established in India as a part of its industrial policy.
Since its inception, the institution has operated from its permanent campus at Silicon Hills, Patia in Bhubaneswar and at Silicon West, Sason, Sambalpur. Both locations have campuses with more than 2,000 students, about 2,000 alumni and 450 staff members.
